In August, AlgaeVS participated in 11 Letters of Intent (LOI) with multiple research organizations for Ohio’s Third Frontier Advanced Energy Program (TFAEP). Additionally, 6 proposals were submitted for grant consideration. Our research partners’ vast capabilities, skills and experience has led to effective collaboration and definable progress from their scientists and engineers. “We are extremely encouraged by the scientific and engineering community’s support of the opportunity to work toward clean energy and feedstocks from algae. Each organization brings a strong focus on achievement” says Ross Youngs, AlgaeVS’s CEO and the principal entrepreneur /inventor. “AlgaeVS and our company’s associates have an established record of success with the commercialization of new technologies and products from conception. Our commercialization experience coupled with our partners’ experience, vision and tenacity provides a platform to accelerate the successful implementation at scale.”
A Third Frontier Research Commercialization Program (RCP) LOI will be submitted for a Scalable and Integrated Waste to Energy System. This proposal will be submitted with the support and contribution of our collaborative partners on November 7th. In addition, the TFAEP is requesting LOIs for the next set of advanced energy proposals. We have plans to work with many of our existing and additional researchers on putting together LOIs that will be due to Third Frontier by December 7th.

The Green Energy Ohio meeting was led by Ohio’s Attorney General -Nancy H. Roger to address the question “What legal impediments exist that might hinder efforts to develop alternative energy sources?” Represented were various departments of Ohio’s government, such as Ohio Departments of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Ohio EPA to address possible legal hurdles that may exist. These hurdles that include intellectual property, zoning, and environmental impact, were being addressed in order to meet the Governor’s goal regarding his call to explore a practical application of energy from alternative sources.

Ross Youngs and Jim Cook were among the 700 attendees, representing more than 12 countries, who came together to discuss algae’s future in renewable energy. This record group of algae producers, scientists, investors and policy-makers left the meeting with the new ideas, partnerships and renewed vigor for developing the algae industry. Other attendees from Ohio included Dr. Ben Stuart from Ohio University and Dr. Joanne Belovich from Cleveland State University.
Many of the world’s leading scientists, technologists and process engineers shared data, findings and conclusions from their testing, projects and studies. Others shared innovative ideas, insights and opinions about technology, business, and the industry. The meeting also provided an open forum to discuss successes, challenges and to make recommendations for moving the industry forward.
The summit also provided great opportunities for business networking. Not only was there ample time built into the event, the caliber of the participants and the range of attendees across the spectrum of the industry were tremendous. The conference was extremely productive for business connections that could lead to future collaborations. It was definitely a benchmark meeting in the algae industry and our attendance is bound to help our national standing.

The months of August and September saw rapid progress on the installation of the first test cell. The nutrient and CO2 delivery systems were installed and tested. The canopy support structure was added, and the canopy itself was installed in October. The temperature control, water flow, and harvesting systems are under construction and are scheduled for installation shortly after the canopy is in place. The support structures for the second, third and fourth test cells have been constructed and installation of the cell basins is underway. Construction of the additional cells will accelerate development as the cells will be linked for optimal production. Harvesting of algae should begin in November.

Our growing team is moving quickly and finding substantial support for our Algae Initiative and the unique business, partnership and technology transfer models. We are continuing our focus on bringing this message to key participants and potential partners on a daily basis which will lead to the formation of the multiple LLCs. We currently have at least five groups preparing business plans across the State of Ohio. This is on track for our goal of implementing 12-20 sites within the next year. Each of the LLCs will focus on the business of building relationships for business success, selling, site preparation, installation, maintenance, and management of installed Algae Crop Systems.
We have also started conversations with candidates for key management positions of the start-up LLCs and are continuing to collect resumes from qualified individuals. These candidates for the executive role at a given LLC will have demonstrated success in business, a fit for our culture, and an altruistic attitude towards building a better future. Please feel free to encourage potential candidates to forward contact information and pertinent information about their experiences.
If you have any questions or comments, please, ALWAYS feel free to call or email me. Together, we WILL grow a bio-based future,
