An accredited investor is an individual with net worth, or joint net worth with that person's spouse, at the time of purchase, exceeds $1,000,000

OR

An individual with income in excess of $200,000 in each of the two most recent years or joint income with that person's spouse in excess of $300,000 in each of those years and has a resonable expectation of reaching the same income level in the current year.

What are feeds? I see "RSS", "XML", and "Atom" out there, but I don't know how I might use these links when I find them.

Feeds are a way for websites large and small to distribute their content well beyond just visitors using browsers. Feeds permit subscription to regular updates, delivered automatically via a web portal, news reader, or in some cases good old email. Feeds also make it possible for site content to be packaged into "widgets," "gadgets," mobile devices, and other bite-sized technologies that make it possible to display blogs, podcasts, and major news/sports/weather/whatever headlines just about anywhere.

Why is This a Good Thing?

Subscribing to feeds makes it possible to review a large amount of online content in a very short time. Feeds permit instant distribution of content and the ability to make it "subscribable." Advertising in feeds overcomes many of the shortcomings that traditional marketing channels encounter including spam filters, delayed distribution, search engine rankings, and general inbox noise.

How do I read feeds?

If you want to browse and subscribe to feeds, you have many choices. Today, there are more than 2,000 different feed reading applications, also known as "news aggregators" (for text, mostly) or "podcatchers" (for podcasts). There are even readers that work exclusively on mobile devices. Some require a small purchase price but are tops for ease-of-use and ship with dozens of feeds pre-loaded so you can explore the feed "universe" right away. Free readers are available as well; a search for "Feed reader" or "Feed aggregator" at popular search sites will yield many results. A handful of popular feed readers are listed at the bottom of this page. A typical interface for a feed reader will display your feeds and the number of new (unread) entries within each of those feeds. You can also organize your feeds into categories and even clip and save your favorite entries (with certain applications). If you prefer, you can use an online, web-based service to track and manage feeds. Online services give you the advantage of being able to access your feed updates anywhere you can find a web browser. Also, upgrades and new features are added automatically.

Initial Cultures for Test Cell

Ross Youngs and Univentures David Coho review the test cell construction progress with Glenn Waring, Vistage Chair. Vistage International is the worlds leading chief executive organization comprised of 14,000 members

Ross Youngs and AlgaeVS's David Coho review the test cell construction progress with Glenn Waring, Vistage Chair. Vistage International is the world's leading chief executive organization comprised of 14,000 members

Our growing team is moving quickly and finding substantial support for our Algae Initiative and the unique business, partnership and technology transfer models. We are continuing our focus on bringing this message to key participants and potential partners on a daily basis which will lead to the formation of the multiple LLCs. We currently have at least five groups preparing business plans across the State of Ohio. This is on track for our goal of implementing 12-20 sites within the next year. Each of the LLCs will focus on the business of building relationships for business success, selling, site preparation, installation, maintenance, and management of installed Algae Crop Systems.

We have also started conversations with candidates for key management positions of the start-up LLCs and are continuing to collect resumes from qualified individuals. These candidates for the executive role at a given LLC will have demonstrated success in business, a fit for our culture, and an altruistic attitude towards building a better future. Please feel free to encourage potential candidates to forward contact information and pertinent information about their experiences.

If you have any questions or comments, please, ALWAYS feel free to call or email me. Together, we WILL grow a bio-based future,

Prototype update: Initial Cultures for Test Cell

Algae PondOver the past 30 days, significant progress has been made on the construction of the first test cell and the auxiliary systems and facilities. The greenhouse and lab are up and being outfitted and will be growing our initial cultures of algae starting August 6th. Construction of the canopy for the first test cell is underway and the cell will be capped and pressurized in the coming weeks. Simultaneously, the nutrient and CO2 delivery systems will be installed. The completion of these projects will enable the first cell to be inoculated in early September. Concurrently, construction of the second, third, and fourth test cells is scheduled to begin on August 11th.

Prototype Update

prototype2
Building Prototype

In early November the Control building and the TPH prototype (transport process harvest) unit was placed at the ends of our hybrid-closed pond cells one and two. The new temporary buildings allow for engineering staff to work through the cold weather testing and improving the systems and processes. Our experience has really illustrated some key technical success factors that are critical to year-round algae growth.

Now that the control system is in place a number of processes will be installed in the buildings over the next month including harvesting, dewatering, power generation, temperature control units, process control equipment, make up water system, and various other capabilities.

The buildings have been insulated and temporary heating is in place until initial prototype processing that provides waste heats are installed. The entire team has been working around the clock to get the systems installed and algae growth productivity improved.

Our cooling system for controlling temperature of the hybrid-closed ponds has been determined, and as a result of an excellent capacity of a geo-thermal aquifer that when utilized our cooling costs will equate to running a pump.

Last week we harvested and dried small quantities of algae biomass and this week our team will be extracting lipids during initial testing of technologies.

Seeking Collaboration for Joint Proposals Time Sensitive!

AlgaeVS is quickly developing a Rapid Algae Farming (RAF) System, which will serve as the platform for the creation of numerous products from algae, specifically biofuels and bioplastics. The RAF System is a fully automated network of enclosed photo-bioreactors that efficiently grows and processes algae. The design is fully adaptable, giving it the capability to utilize virtually any species of algae. Many technical challenges exist in making the algae to biofuels and bioproducts process viable, and extensive collaboration is required to succeed in this endeavor.

AlgaeVS seeks to collaborate with your organization on this exciting project. We would like to start by submitting a joint Third Frontier Grant Advanced Enerygy Program Grant Proposal (TFAEP) – RFP which is due September 9, 2008. The proposal will be focused on one or more aspects of the algae to biofuels or bioproducts process that your organization is well suited to tackle. AlgaeVS has already completed a significant portion of the Third Frontier RFP, and would require your organization to generate the portion of the RFP that outlines what your contribution and why our partnership is well suited for this project.

If you are interested in pursuing this opportunity please fill out our Joint Proposal Letter of Intent, which outlines the aspects of the algae to biofuels or bioproducts process where our collaboration will be successful. In order to proceed, we MUST have this Letter of Intent returned by fax or email no later than August 7, 2008. Please direct any questions to Ross Youngs at 800-992-8262.
